A collection with Perspective on Purpose.

The beauty of you, captured in the timelessness of a portrait.  This collection was created to serve as a reminder to you of your unique value and worth.  That you are a gift.  That you are a blessing when you are the truest version of yourself.  The Self Portraits collection creates a piece of beauty that showcases the uniqueness of you—not distorted, not dressed up or down—but rather the authentic you, right here, right now.

We as individuals rarely see ourselves clearly and, therefore, cannot see others and the world clearly.  The only One who can tell you who you are is the One who created you.  You are already special, and our Self Portraits collection acts as a visible reminder of that.

Portraiture, specifically our Self Portraits collection, helps us see ourselves from a new perspective, offering a type of self-reflection rather than the self-promotion seen all around us.  Portraits capture emotion and spirit in a way that photographs cannot, and we hope our Self Portraits encourage you to love who you were created to be.

To order a Self Portrait, simply select your preferred size of our Classic Portrait offering here.

For every Self Portrait purchased, our team will gift a portrait to an individual through like-minded organizations. Each Self Portrait will be delivered with a card detailing the beauty, identity and worth of the recipient in hopes of beginning a conversation of who created us and why.

A note from our founder…

I started Proper Portraits wanting to remain anonymous, but have come to realize that relationships and people are central to and more important than the business itself.  So, my question for Proper Portraits gradually changed to asking God how he would use a portrait business to love and serve others.  The answer came rather quickly and clearly: Self Portraits.

My earliest memory of a self portrait was in elementary school—the task at hand was to somehow make papier-mâché on construction paper into the most accurate portrayal of your face. From there I remember drawing myself with colored pencils and crayons for various projects until we finally made a full mask that was somehow supposed to represent us. Interesting. I’ve been living behind this figurative mask most of my life. Now, I’m in my early thirties, married with two children, and have just recently come to know who I am. Who I really am. I’ve also realized you and I will never be able to love others if we don’t first love who we were created to be. And then live into that life (not someone else’s life).

While the Self Portraits collection is not technically a true self-portrait (don’t worry, you will not draw yourself… but you can take your own photo to send in!), it is an opportunity for an accurate, beautiful portrayal of yourself as you truly are—not as you want to be or think you should be. Hang it in your bedroom, your bathroom, your living room—anywhere that you will see it and be reminded of the one and only you.  Gift a Self Portrait to someone you know who needs to be reminded of their value and worth, because we all need to be refreshed of this truth each and every day.
