Proper Portraits started like most businesses—creating a thoughtful solution for an unfulfilled need.  Here’s the quick story.  My husband and I were looking for an affordable portrait option for our son to capture his personality at a young age.  While we were (and are!) very interested in commissioning an oil portrait, we knew he was not at the right age to make such an investment.  Hence, our portraiture search began, but we never found exactly what we were looking for.  I have a background in art and graphic design, so I knew there must be a way to combine digital editing with hand artistry to produce something similar to what we had in mind.  After multiple stylistic versions and variations, my husband and I loved the final result!

We then began creating for friends and family, and in 2022 I launched the Proper Portraits website to create for anyone considering a custom and timeless portrait.  Our team offers portraits for all ages and seasons of life, as well as your furry friends.  While our process will never replace hand-drawn works of art, Proper Portraits is a thoughtful, attainable alternative with a quick turnaround.
